Have you heard of Church's Chicken? Well, I call this my "chicken church"--yep, that is my chicken coop!!

I have to reveal to you what has happened to my chickens---- Some of them are muppets!

haha--look like muppets, huh? Check out the weird yellow chickens with feathers all down their legs.freaks, i tell ya!!

I was asked where to house the ducks.

This is our duck house/yard.(still not complete). There are 3 stalls underneath, and the kids and I made this by ourselves. Yes, seriously, it was simple.We also added a kiddie pool pond, but we took it back out to make a drain(from pvc pipe).If you think you can't do it, trust me, you can_If you want further instructions, let me know!!!!

I bought quite a treasure today, this coffee pot is so large, it holds over 2 gallons!! They charged me a whoppin $2!! I love it!!

My husband decided to buy ducklings and chicks. These little chicks are so tiny, and adorable!!1

This is our second batch of chickens and ducks. The others have grown quite large, and are different breeds. We are not even sure what the other chickens are called. They remind me of muppets(no kidding)-- I'll post pics of them another day!

He has totally outdone himself!!! Yes, my husband again... Check out my new stove board. He recruited Rev's help and this came out so much better than I could have imagined. I LOVE IT!!! How sweet of them, huh?

Look at this cabinet I picked up for $3. It may not look right, but is perfect height and width for this corner. So how am I going to fit this in my primtive decor?Watch:

Not bad for $3 and $1 worth of paint, huh?

I tucked this in the corner of the dining area. I put my new pegboard and new sign from Pam here as well.

I used to have a dish hutch and a desk here, but I didn't feel like it was a pleasant dining experience to ask someone to move if you needed to get around the table.-- so they are going to find new homes.

To be honest, looking back, I can't believe that things were so crowded before. While I loved the peices, I really need to listen to my friends who are willing to remind me that "less is more" hahaha

Then I put a few things on the other wall of the dining area:

I am still considering if I should stain these giant boards or not.

Now I have to remove everything from the kitchen and dining area and start scraping linoleum so we can get some tile laid. We also bought a refrigerator that all of our groceries can fit it....lol...( I know, I spend so much time trying to make a decision that I make NO decision-- so we finally just went with a great deal). so I can't wait until this is all finished!! In the meantime, I hope nobody comes to visit.... the stove and fridge will be parked in the front room, and things will be crazy!!! How do you deal with that? Dear friends.... you can't come in? lol!!

When i went to another store, i found all of these cute signs for less than $4 each. Wow.

The longest one is about 2 1/2 feet long.

I am a happy girl today. I recently signed up for another swap with Char at The Pickled Pepper Patch(super talented and I have become a PPP groupie--thanks, Char) My swap partner was Jan from http://oldeharborsaltbox.blogspot.com/. After you check out my goodies, go visit my new friend Jan. She has an awesome personality and Don't tell her, but I think she may have missed her calling as a writer. haha.Her personality is amazing and She's the type of girl that you want to come for coffee and never leave. What a blessing to have met her. And, on top of all of that, she sent me all of this really super awesome cool stuff!!! How can you beat that? I feel speechless about how appreciative I am. The rules of this swap, which was a PRIMITIVE swap, were to find 3 items that some might consider trash and turn it in to treasure for your partner. Well, Jan's items and talent in transforming them were perfect for me. I love them and Jan, Thank You So Much!!!! First, I have really, really wanted a gameboard with a crow, but well..... I was too cheap to buy a stencil to only use once( ya, well at least i am being honest). So I was super happy to find Jan had made this board for me. This is what it looks like on one side:

Jan created this rolling pin out of one that looked new. Awesome. I love this!!! (Please tell max that)wink, wink.

I discovered recently that I had too much red, white, and blue in my front room. I was making a serious effort to watch for green items and wished I had green paint. I know, me without green paint, weird, huh?

So when Jan sent me this perfect green candle hutch, It is very possible that I may have been doing a little jig, maybe. If I was, it is not likely I would want to tell everyone. ok, I was... Happy Dance going on round here!!! Ha Ha!!!It is cool, huh? This candle is called "Olde Hearth"-- and I can't wait to try it.The card is so wonderful, as well and I am going to frame it. The whole package smelled heavenly,thanks to this wonderful potpourri of fixins:

i put it with a candle under my food screen in the kitchen right where I can enjoy the scent throughout the day.

Some people just don't understand (primitive decor)

I am so thankful for friends who love and appreciate primitive decor. It is a great blessing to me to have others share their ideas and talents and appreciation. I wanted to share a bit about why we "show off" what we have found or what we have discovered or the ideas we have in primitive decor. Some who just don't understand not only do not understand why you would tote a paint chipped bench INSIDE your house, let alone why you would blog about it and tell the whole world.( I'd like to buy the world an issue of Country Sampler Magazine).Oftentimes, people think that you are bragging about what you made or bought or were given, when it is simply NOT the case. You see, primitive decor is like a treasure hunt for ancient treasures. When you accomplish finding or creating that treasure, you share the idea or the accomplishment with your prim friends, but generally, people do not mean to say "I have a new tote and you don't na_na_na_na_na!! Ha Ha. Finding or creating these items does NOT make you materialistic. If you took the time to KNOW me, you would know that is not the case.As a matter of fact, My husband has to force me to buy new things most of the time. My car just recently went to the shop, and they gave us a list of things that needed fixed, and when my husband said "you just need a new car!", I teared up, and so he gave in and I get to keep my old car. ( of course I will have to wait a couple of weeks until my car is fixed). Now, if someone makes a primitive item, and shares their work or idea with you, that is a GOOD THING, and it is great that people appreciate their talent. Primitive decor includes putting items together to form a "gathering". So when people share their things, it is showing what treasures you made or found, and how you put them together. If I tell you my husband bought me an item that matches my decor, it is not to brag, but to say......."can you believe a husband actually understands?".

Now with that being said, You just cannot imagine how much it means to have friends that have the same decorating style as you. Friends that understand what happens when people are talking about you like you are not there saying things like
"is she lazy, or does she just not know how to refinish a table... we should stain it for her"
"she actually means for it to look like that, She WANTS it like that"
"now I know for a fact that you can afford to buy a decent table, I don't know why you have that crap in here"
"looks like you gave up polishing many years ago"
"how much work are you going to have to do to that to make it usable?"
"I guess, if that's your thing"
"You could at least paint that"
Oh my. Those people are not invited over anymore. Ha Ha

I saw these beauties at the bottom of a stack on the bottom shelf at GW, Under a bunch of pots and pans. When I saw them and rushed over and knelt down, A lady noticed my excitement and was clearly ready to try and get some of what I was after. When she saw that this is what I was after, she gave me the weirdest look. If she understood, they would not have still been there for me to find, now would they? It was my very own treasure.

Sorry for not posting for a while. I have been super busy with some projects around the house and with a new curriculum. Salt dough ornies and a thrift store makeover

I love salt dough ornies, so I made some for Valentines Day. Simple and easy recipe--- 2 cups flour, 1 cup salt, 1 cup water---- roll out and cut like cookies. Bake at 300 for 45-60 minutes(varies depending on the thickness)-- You can also paint words, polka dots, etc if you want.Make great bowl fillers.

I figured I would make some for St.Patty's while I was at it: Fun huh? If you decide to make some, show me!!!

Suet to feed the birds. Great project to do with the kids.

1 cup crunchy peanut butter

1 cup lard or shortening

2 cups quick oats

2 cups cornmeal

1 cup flour

1/3 cup sugar

Mix dry ingredients. Melt peanut butter and lard together, and mix with dry ingredients. Press into pan, cool, cut into squares and freeze until needed.

My beautiful 15 year old daughter MADE this scarf for me!!! It even has my initials stitched in it!!!!Very special!!!! The boys picked out gloves to match. So sweet, huh? I will cherish this scarf forever.

She sent a whole set of these awesome placemats. I love them and it is the first time I have found placemats that do not overlap.

She sent candle scent and tarts. Way cool,huh?

Why do you pay so much for furniture and they give you the ugliest pillows in history to go with it? YUCK!!!!! These are the pillows that came with my furniture. Maybe good for some, but NOT for me. So I ask myself, What would Martha do? ......

Now I have so many more areas to organize downstairs that my husband said" when can we have a family clean the basement day?"

Use aluminum foil as a template.

TS finds and a couple tips-- and a shocking confession

hey y'all!! Don't you hate when they use "miracle adhesive" on labels? It seems the more you try to wash it off, the more it sticks!!Here is the solution:

Spread peanut butter on it! yup, that is right. the oil in the peanut butter loosens the label. Let it set, scrape it,..... spread the peanut butter back over it until all of the label can scrape off. yippy skippy!!! It works.

I went to TS yesterday and today.There is a new guy at the counter who is charging me less because he thinks I am cute. Here is the shocking confession:I feel like a Thrift Store whore. yup. i do....... hey but i will get over it....... look at the cute little things I found:$5.75for this:

Yesterdays projects---- that was quite painful to make that chinese checker board.

I love this washboard, I bought it at an estate sale. My brother bought me the soap, sweet huh?

So I was telling grandma about the washboard, and she says"oh ya, I have one of those behind my washing machine. Go get it and you can have it" wow-- here is the one she gave me: It is about half the width of the other---- love it!!!!

progress?

Well the progress I have made so far, which is not much. The front room is looking like we are getting somewhere. I am desperately looking for just the right rug(s). I hate the pillows that come with couches, and I am planning on making some new ones-- when some miraculous time falls out of the sky. Some things I plan on replacing with some prim items as I get them finished, again when miraculous time appears.
We painted this cabinet and hung it over the stove.

This is an eclectic corner on the stairwall. Some things I love, others will go. Thinking about painting the chair? I bought it for $5 and the little quilted cover for 75 cents.

Learning to eliminate some items thanks to my very honest friends, and I love honesty. So, I am NOT going to show it, but the kitchen table is currently stacked with other things I eliminated-- To achieve the "less is more"concept. Thanks girls--- maybe tomorrow we will have a discussion of if I look fat in these pants.

I frustrate myself!! Can I get some prim advice?

Ok, I had this shelf, my husband put the backboard and pegs on it for me. I wanted a larger shelf with pegs because I had found these candles that are 15 inches!!!(I have a couple more if someone wants to swap for something). I put so many things on the shelf, took them off, you know--- for hours. HOURS. Why am I suddenly hating everything I try? Help.
I moved this giant bench in( it came from that junk sale)--not liking this arrangement so much either!

I am still having a camera problem, so my daughter took some more pics for me of the next day of junking. When we got back to the house where the sale was taking place, most everything was gone. OH, but I have been blessed with a husband who is starting to understand me, and helped me to unearth some treasures. Everything was filthy and needs a good cleaning....... but you have got to do what you have got to do for a treasure.

Hello my friends!!! I woke up today feeling super sick. I am so lightheaded. I have hardly slept for 2 nights.There was an estate sale in the next town over that started at 9 am. I felt so yucky, I thought about not going.I took a bath and got dressed and ready. I looked so super cute today, do you ever have those days? It is big for me to say that, because I have wrestled so much with low self esteem. Then when the dog broke a window downstairs, i really thought about staying home. I decided to just try to go, and I am so glad I did. Everything was a mess and I was digging in a basement with boxes covered in dirt.I was filthy and did not look so cute anymore. ha ha!! I found some treasures though(i can't get my camera to work, so my 15 year old daughter took all of the pictures with hers-sweet):

Do I dare to be different?

I have been scouring Country Living, Country Sampler, and online pictures as I have been planning the decorating of my house. I have been to the flooring store, I even chose some flooring that I could live with(mostly because it had a lifetime warranty). Then, Everytime I come across a picture with painted wood floors, I drool. I love, love, love......ok.... I am way obsessed by them.
I am not sure where this picture came from, But oh my goodness I am in love!!!!

When my husband started pressing a little about my choice for the floors, I told him"I just can't find anything that I love, unless you want to give me painted pine floors". Then my husband, who is a carpenter, says, "I would do that for you, baby."
Except for the rough years I spent with this man, I would swear he is an angel straight from heaven!!!!! I am so excited. This is a very bold choice to make, I know.
Then, I really got to thinking, If I am having this hard of a time choosing flooring, How can I finish decorating if I choose just one style? Yes I love many country elements, and I love prim decorating, But i have so many things I like and cannot part with. So I am stepping out of the box. I figure in my country farmhouse, An eclectic country/primitive blend will be just right for me. Hope you enjoy watching as the house is being transformed. Hello------- so we have been hunting....a lot. It has taken up soooo much time. I am excited to get back to getting the house going!!!!

Remember this table? The cashiers at the antique shop were whispering about me buying a table that was in 2 peices.

Well.... You know I could see their potential as 2 console tables: I LOVE THEM!!!! After primming them up a little, They fit perfectly on either side of the fireplace.

We've added new furniture and got this room almost together now..... Except for rugs...... which is driving me crazy. Who knew choosing rugs could be so hard? Anyway, stay tuned and I will post some pics of the room in the next couple days..

ok, guess what is behind the paneling? Brick, that is it!! Yes the brick the house is built with!! We decided to paint it ivory to brighten things up a bit. I am loving it!!!!! Now on to furniture.

This large candlewarming crock was $1.00. This is awesome and I was looking at them yesterday.....cough at full price. Thank God I did not buy one until today. The pineapple is the exact one I would have bought and it is the symbol for hospitality.

These are super incredibly handy for backyard bbq's or picnics. They hold The paper plates, napkins, and cups and prevent them from blowing away. I picked these up for .75 cents each. The straw holder was 10 cents.

Vintage Thingies Thursday

It's Thursday. I'm joining Coloradolady again today for Vintage Thingies Thursday.

OK, don't be mad. I got these tablecloths and napkins for next to nothing at a yard sale. Ever notice how well made vintage items are? These tablecloths are very heavy material.

Manual Coffee Grinder. My family likes this way more than I do. It is not often that they want to stop and check out "what mom has brought home now"< but they all really liked this one.

I really like this old shoe shine box.

I purchased this little girls trash bin at a yard sale for 2 bucks.

Look what it has become:

A perfect potato bin. The best part is it has vent holes in the bottom, just in case you get a stinky potato.
I bought another flowery matching piece.....stay tuned for that makeover!!!

This is my favorite find this week: already primmed with a prerusted rack-$2!

Found this little chair_ and I already had 2 others. Going to paint them and hang them together like I saw in the recent issue of Country Sampler.

I got all of these stamps for super cheap!!!

and this candle lantern also( it needs new paint but it will hold a large candle.)

This is a keepers of the light candle for $2( came with a stand) This one smells like butterscotch pudding!!! YUMMY!!!

LOOOVE These bowls: I see them each in a different color?

Thought this was cute but the frame needs some work.

And something I think is absolutely beautiful: This lovely bucket cost me $2! There were some regular buckets there, but they were more expensive. I got this one cheap because the paint was chippin" (looks like a million bucks to me).

Prim makeovers

So, I have been primming up a few things ( in yellow ). I cannot believe how much I love the yellow!!!

I can't believe that I could be in love with this yellow. ( This was a can of oops paint). I think I might move on to blue.

Am I ever going to get anything done around here?

Since beginning our move on May 29th, I feel like I have had zero time to get anything done in our new old home. Vacation, youth group, Brian's work_ all have taken up so much of our time. I guess i did not anticipate that everything would not be done in a day. Nor did i anticipate plumbing problems. NICE. Real nice.
We have gotten a bit of a garden in...... I don't mind that it is late because the weather has not been normal around here and we might not have had a successful garden if we had been able to plant early.

Our plan was to start in the front room. We planned on painting and ripping out the carpet to reveal the hardwood. Since this has not been possible, I decided yesterday to just start unpacking some things. So now I have random things around the front room, but i am ok with it. I Have a few things hanging on the WHITE walls, but i feel like it looked like I hated my home when they were blank. LOL!!
SO WHAT COLOR DO YOU THINK I SHOULD PAINT THAT PANELING AROUND THE FIREPLACE?

Do you want to know something that is WAY cool about buying a new old house? Presents!! I love presents!!! We had some friends bring us this beautiful clock,and other friends brought 2 of these cross lamps( I Love crosses)! So Sweet huh?

Junk Party

Joining Kennesha's junk party! I really, really need more lighting around here!! Yesterday I found this light fixture and figured I could make it LOOK old. They charged me $1.50!!
Then, at the next store, I found this fixture, which already looks old and rustic:and the lady gave it to me for FREE!

These "candles" were $2.00 each, but i figured i could make them look old as well. The best thing, they have sensors that make them come on when the light dims. Love that!!!

While we are on the subject of lighting, These are the lighting fixtures that were in the kitchen when we moved in. What do you think? Should I keep them? Yes I need suggestions, and while we are at it, There is a sneak peak of my kitchen cabinets, too. Paint them? Paint the hardware? What do you think I should do?

We stumbled upon the end of a yardsale yesterday. They were selling all you can fit into a box for $5.00! Here's my first box:

An awesome bargain on frames, huh?

Then at the next stop we found all of these antique bottles. They are in serious need of cleaning but they are so cool!! I told my husband "I want all of these bottles" He said "all?" What do you think- more than one person needs? maybe i should give a couple as a giveaway?

The total for all of these was $15.00. The large brown one in the back is a clorox bottle. One of the small brown ones says Lysol. There are a couple bayer and Jergens bottles as well. Now to figure out how to clean them!!!

wow i am super busy... But i could not miss out on the goodwill party being hosted by thrifty decor chick. I could go on and on all day, but i will post a few favorite finds. The following three items were salvaged from a partially collapsed house on someones property. They would not take any money for them: first this table:

I purchased this table for $12 the other day. The cashiers were talking about me- and thinking i must not have known the table was in half. Looks like 2 beautiful console tables to me. LOVE!!

please don't hate me for this find:
$12 for ALL of these! God really loves me.
